Happy 2014! I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.  More importantly, I hope you’re feeling well rested and motivated to make 2014 your best year yet!

While I was on holiday’s sunny-ing myself up in beautiful Byron Bay, one of the things I spent time thinking about was what I had achieved over the past year and what goals I would like to work towards for the coming year. One of my biggest areas of growth last year was building my knowledge base on holistic medicine and learning how to heal the body naturally, with a particular focus on inflammatory bowel disease. Purely through reading books and articles and talking to my naturopath, I’m really in awe of how much I’ve learnt over the last year – and the wealth of information that’s still out there to discover!

So that is my focus for 2014 – continuing to learn and share with you all of the wonderful information I continue to discover about food, diet, health, wellness and what you can do to heal your body and be healthier from the inside out. All of the information I share comes from my readings and learnings and what I have found that has worked for me. Following a diet that is focused on wholefoods and is free of gluten, dairy, soy, artificial chemicals and flavourings and refined-sugar has really allowed my health to prosper! There is no denying that every person is different – so what may work for someone, may not necessarily work for another. The key is to try different things, different food combinations and listen to your body to know what is right for you. You are the only one who will know.

I always use January as a time to get back on track with eating foods that are right for my body and also to detox the system. On that note, I want to share with you some of my favourite recipes that will set you up for a healthy January!

Wellness tip: Juices, soups and smoothies are perfect when detoxing to get an instant hit if nutrients and also to give your digestive system a break!

Super Detox Juice

1 small beetroot

2 medium carrots

3 stalks celery

2 handfuls spinach

¼ lemon

1 tsp spirulina

As you know, I am obsessed with smoothies! Green, berry, banana, cacao, almond, superfoods – you name it, I’m hooked! To the point where I actually took my blender on our holiday so I wouldn’t have to go without my daily smoothie 🙂

Here’s a new combination I’m loving…

Berrylicious Smoothie

1 cup almond milk

1 frozen banana

½ cup blueberries

2 tsp Loving Earth rainbow superfood blend (blend of maqui, AFA blue green algae, camu camu, acai and gubinge)

handful spinach

scoop of sunwarrior vanilla protein powder

1 Tbsp flaxseed oil

1 tsp chia seeds

top with puffed amaranth (or whatever you desire!)

Chia Pudding – a great breakfast option full of omega-3 healthy fats, protein, antioxidants and so good for digestion!

Chicken Soup – the ultimate healing soup!

Main

Simple Green Salad + cultured vegies

Simply toss all your favourite greens in some lemon juice and olive oil, and top with avocado and cultured vegetables. At the moment I’m loving Life In A Jar cultured raw organic vegetables (which have up to 2.6 billion gut loving, probiotic, immune system boosting good bacteria per jar!!)

Finally here’s a few sweet healthy treats – an essential of course!

Lemon and coconut bliss balls – so refreshingly light and sweet!

Healthy chocolate mousse  -because we all need a little bit of chocolate in our lives!
