About
Hello and welcome to The Wellness Temple 🙂
Thank you so much for visiting my blog! My name is Bianca and I’m a corporate lawyer living and working in Sydney, Australia. In my spare time, I love to read, learn, talk and embrace all things ‘health and wellness’ – which includes a huge love affair with food and cooking!
So here’s a little bit about me and why I decided to start this blog…
When I was 13 years old I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis which is an incurable inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Over this time, there have been many lows – I was having flare ups/relapsing at least twice a year which often ended up in me taking high levels of steroids or in hospital to get things under control quickly. All I knew about IBD was what the doctors told me and the medication that kept me in remission… a constant cycle of drugs and doctors. I quickly became content with the fact that for the rest of my life I would have to take medication if I wanted to live.
Up until about mid-2012, things took a turn for the worst and I was confronted with the reality that I would need surgery to remove my colon. Bottom line. In my mind, this illness that I had been living with for over half my life suddenly became very real, and very scary.
Faced with the ultimatum that I would spend the rest of my life with a bag outside my body to collect my stool (sorry, there’s no polite way of describing this!), I was determined not to settle for the conventional doctors’ advice this time round. I decided to seek alternative advice from a naturopath – a decision which undoubtedly changed the course of my life.
Today, I can confidently say I’m kicking IBD’s ass one day at a time!
So how did I get here? I have learnt SO much in the past few years about the body’s natural ability to heal itself. I have basically eliminated all wheat, gluten, dairy, soy, processed foods and any other inflammatory foods from my diet with the aim of healing my gut. There is no denying this change was hard, especially if you’re a bread lover like I was! But for me it was as simple as focusing on what I could eat rather than what I couldn’t – and trust me there are so many yummy foods out there that you won’t look back!
My goal is to empower others living with IBD, or with any inflammation in the body, to realise the importance that diet and nutrition plays in our wellbeing. I will share with you all my favourite recipes, nutrition for inflammation, information on supplements and probiotics, the power of self-healing and the importance of developing a spiritual practice to heal your gut and in turn, heal your life. More than anything I want this to be an open forum for us to engage and talk openly about health, wellness and living with disease – so I would love to hear from you!
Happy reading and remember your body is your temple so treat it well!

Hurray! You’re site is exactly what I’ve been looking for! I’m just creeping into recovery from a massive Crohn’s flare-up and I am sick & tired of these terrible meds. Thank you for doing this! I will be trying everything!
Hi Danica! Thank you so much and I’m SO happy that you have discovered my site and you’re open to trying other natural treatments. I’ve pretty much experienced it all when it comes to my colitis, and since adopting a more holistic lifestyle and changing my diet, I can honestly say I’ve never felt better. So please feel free to ask me anything you want! My email is wellnesstemple1@gmail.com 🙂 xx
Your story is such a positive motivator for me! I just started seeing a naturopath doctor in October. I know I get discouraged at time because I will eat something that upsets me or that my body is not ready for yet. But I still continue to be gluten, wheat, and dairy free as suggested by doctor. We are VERY slowly reintroducing fiber. I want my body to heal faster but I know it took years for it to get this way and its going to take a while to heal. I know with my stomach pain and nausea the change in diet helped immediately. But with my rashes and energy its a slow progress of healing. I look forward to reading more about your blog!
Hi there! Thank you so much for your comments 🙂 It’s so great to be able to connect to other IBD peeps – its the whole reason I started this blog, to share my story and hopefully inspire others on their healing journey. I absolutely understand what your going through… as much as you want to speed up the healing process, sometimes the body will just take a little longer. But keep going because you will get there – and your change in eating habits will help your body immensely! Keeping a positive frame of mind and managing stress are my two biggest recommendations when it comes to the “non-food” side of things – they are so important but often the hardest things to control. Feel free to ask me any questions at all xx
